What is Dropbox?
Dropbox is an external server storage service. The Dropbox service gives users the ability to store in, access and share files from one place. This is done by synchronization between the external servers (managed by the Dropbox team) and a locally installed application on the (users) computer(s), and/or by direct use of the Dropbox web interface.
Can Dropbox be used on UiB computers?
The IT department will not install the Dropbox application on any Windows computer managed by the department, as it is not compatible with the configuration of the system, and can cause problems.
The Dropbox web interface can still be used (see Dropbox).
Important note!: We ask all our users to please consider the security risks involved when one uses an external service, not managed or approved by UiB, to store or share files. Keep in mind that loss of data is a risk as well. Do not hesitate to ask the deparment for other alternatives.
