All students and employees at UiB are assigned a home directory (digital storage) on a server, connected to their user account.
The main advantagees of storing files on the server, is that the contents are backed up every night, and that the user is relieved of having to carry their files on a memory stick, CD, DVD or other external storage medium. You only need access to a computer from which you an connect to your home directory.
You can connect to your home directory using eg SSH or SFTP. If you are a student, type "login.uib.no" in the "host name" field. Employees choose their respective server, such as nturt.uib.no, skuld, helix, or platon. Use the same user name and password that you use when you log in to webmail, MySpace, etc. SSH software may be downloaded from https://tjinfo.uib.no/program.
