* UiB logon, i.e. you log in with you regular UiB user name and passord. hen you change your passord on sebra.uib.no, the passord will also be changed on your Mac hen it is connected to the UiB wired network.
* Printer installation is simplified, with a few printer drivers pre-installed.
* Standard software will be included. We have packaged a few programs for you to install yourself. Please register needs for other software on [https://bs.uib.no/ Issue-tracker].
* VPN and [[Eduroam]] are pre-configured, you only have to authenticate with your user name and password.
You will still be able to install software from Apple's AppStore, and configure your computer settings in "System Preferences".
===Stage 2===
* Pre-configured mail and home directory connection.
* Encrypted hard disk on laptop models.
As of now, there is no date set for the introduction of stage 2. Funtionality will be introduced as it is tested by the IT Department and ready for wider use.

At UiB there are some PC labs with Mac, including for film and TV students at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Mac OS X Managed Clients at UiB

The development of a client run operating system for Mac by the IT department had in January this year come so far that we were ready for an extended test phase. All Macs that have been installed since January have been installed with the new client setup. We consider now the test phase as ended. All machines that have been installed in the test phase are now considered as managed clients. The IT department wants from 15 August to provide client service for all Macs - not only newly installed. Client Operating Mac involves: • That machine are set up with latest available operating system • UiB sign-in, meaning that you log in to the machine with your usual UoB username and password. When changing the password at sebra.uib.no,your password will also be changed on your machine when it is wired on to the UiB network. • Installing printers are simplified and some printer drivers are pre-installed. • Standard software is pre-installed. • A Software Center where you can find programs we have packed and are readdy to be installed. • VPN and eduroam is pre-configured, you only need to authenticate with your username and password.

What comes later: • Pre-configuration of email • Pre-configuration of the mapping to your home directory • Encrypted hard drive on portable devices
