Some employees at UiB use Outlook as e-mail and calendar client, and have a user account on an Exchange server at the IT department.

If you are not sure whether your UiB e-mail is on the Exchange server, you may have a look at "E-mail accounts" in the "Tools" menu in Outlook.

The e-mail will not be available in both Outlook and Mozilla (Firefox) as the e-mail needs to be sent to either an Exchange or an IMAP server.

On UiB computers run by the IT department, the account settings should be done automatically in the corresponding e-mail program on your computer.

If you are uncertain about how to use Outlook, you may find help on this page or a subpage. The Outlook help also has much useful information.

If you need training, you may attend a course.

If you have problems you cannot solve yourself, please register an issue in https://bs.uib.no or call BRITA on (555) 84700.

When changing to Outlook for e-mail and calendar, note the following:

e-mail

Your existing e-mail will not be transferred to your Outlook e-mail on the Exchange server.

Your old e-mail may be read using e.g. Webmail, Pine or Mozilla Thunderbird.

In Mozilla / Thunderbird you may choose all e-mails (Ctrl + A) in your mailbox, right-click and choose "Forward as attachment..." and send to yourself.

Having received the message in Outlook, you may open it, choose the attached messages and drag them to the desired Outlook folder.

Your Address book is neither automatically transferred to your Outlook. It is, however, possible to fix this yourself.

You may try the ilustrated user manual (in Norwegian) for transfering address books from Mozilla to Outlook.

When the UiB Outlook is not available (at home or when travelling),

you must use the Outlook Web Access or Webmail (log on to Exchange) to read and send e-mail.

Via UiB's encrypted VPN connection, laptop users may run Outlook via VPN when away from campus.

Automatic absence reply and forwarding for Outlook users must be done in Outlook or Outlook Web Access.

The web based page for this service which is available for other e-mail users at UiB may not be used by users on the Outlook and Exchange platform.

Calendar

Netscape Calendar is no longer supported.

Existing calendar data can not be transferred, meaning you may need to run two calendars till you have finished migrating to the Outlook calendar.

The Calendar in Outlook is available in the menu bar to the left in Outlook, or in Outlook Web Access.
