Mac OS X is Apple's operating system, used in all laptop and desktop computers from Apple.inc, formerly Apple Computer, Inc.. You will find more information on http://www.apple.com/macosx/ or on Winkipedia on Mac OS X.

At UiB there are some PC labs with Mac, including for film and TV students at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

You will still have full access to be able to install software that may appear in Apple's "Appstore" and configure machine settings from "System Preferences." The licenses the IT-department have purchased for OSX are only to be used on managed clients. Anyone who wants their machines upgraded to the latest OSX version will therefore be set up as a client. If you do not want such a setup you must purchase the license yourself. 

 IT department will only provide support on machines that we have set up as managed clients.
